Glossary
The terms of the EU Deforestation Regulation and of TracaTerre, with their French equivalent. Summarised definitions: only the text published in the Official Journal of the European Union is authentic.
- Alert causes · Causes d'une alerte
- Alert review: what explains the signal.
- Alert review decisions · Décisions de revue d'une alerte
- Human review of a forest alert; the machine never decides.
- Application dates · Dates d'application
- 30 December 2026 in general; 30 June 2027 for operators that are natural persons, micro or small undertakings established as such by 31 December 2024 (except certain wood products).Art. 38 §2 et §3

- Any person established in the Union who has received a written mandate from an operator to submit the statement on its behalf. An operator that is a natural person or a microenterprise may also authorise the next downstream actor (neither a natural person nor a microenterprise) to act as authorised representative. In every case, the operator remains responsible.Art. 2, point 22 ; art. 6 §1 et §3

- Quantity of a product tracked end to end: collection batch (producers' deliveries), processing batch, export batch, or receiving batch (received from a supplier through a transfer).
- Batch transfer · Transfert de lot
- Sending a whole batch, as the supplier composed it, to a connected buyer, with a frozen and sealed file: plots, quantities, legality, checks, upstream references. The buyer accepts or refuses it; it does not change the quantities.
- Company sizes · Tailles d'entreprise
- Actor page: the size (based on headcount, balance sheet total and turnover) decides some obligations, such as micro or small primary operator status.
- Connection · Relation
- Link accepted by two organisations on the platform. It enables offers, purchase requests, transfers, indicator sharing and data deposits between them.
- Country benchmarking · Classement des pays
- Each country is classified as low, standard or high risk. The classification in force is the annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1093; countries not listed there are standard risk.Art. 29 ; règl. d'exécution (UE) 2025/1093
- Country risk categories · Catégories de risque des pays
- Country reference list (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1093), used for due diligence.
- Cut-off date (31 December 2020) · Date butoir (31 décembre 2020)

- Data deposit · Dépôt de données
- File (GPS survey, analysis, certificate) deposited by a data partner for a client; the client accepts it into its evidence file or refuses it.

- Delivery · Apport
- Quantity delivered by a producer from a given plot and entered into a collection batch.
- Downstream operator · Opérateur en aval

- Due diligence · Diligence raisonnée
- The operator's three-step process: collecting information (Art. 9), assessing the risk of non-compliance (Art. 10) and mitigating it to no or negligible risk (Art. 11).Art. 8 à 11
- Due diligence statement (DDS) · Déclaration de diligence raisonnée (DDS)
- Statement submitted to the EU information system before placing on the market or export, in which the operator confirms that due diligence was exercised and that no or only a negligible risk was found.Art. 4 §2

Every commodity in a statement carries one: TracaTerre asks for it when the lot is put together (2 to 12 digits).Annexe I ; annexe II
- Human review · Revue humaine
- Decision taken by an authorised person on a forest alert. Tree cover loss detected by satellite is not confirmed deforestation: the software never decides on its own.

- Micro or small primary operator · Micro ou petit opérateur primaire
- An operator, natural person or micro or small undertaking, established in a low-risk country, who places on the market products it has itself grown, harvested or obtained in that country. It submits a single simplified declaration instead of successive due diligence statements.Art. 2, point 15 bis ; art. 4 bis
- Non-EU supplier · Fournisseur hors UE
- Producer, cooperative or exporter selling to the party that places products on the market. The Regulation imposes no obligation of its own, but the buyer cannot declare anything without its information: geolocation, quantities, proof of legality.Art. 9 (informations attendues de l'opérateur)
- Operations between lots: merge, split, processing · Opérations entre lots : fusion, division, transformation
- Lot page › “Bring material in from another lot” › Operation. Material moves from a source lot into this lot; its plots of origin always follow it.
- Operator · Opérateur

- Plot sharing · Partage de parcelles
- A producer sends its plots (geolocation, area, declared legality, certifications) to its cooperative or buyer, in a sealed file. The recipient files them in its registry; a new share updates them.
- Plot summary · Bilan d'une parcelle
- Members and plots, Purchases and lots: geolocation, forest check and legality combined.
- Producer availability · Disponibilité d'un producteur

- Products listed in Annex I (by Harmonised System code) that contain, have been fed with or have been made using relevant commodities: cocoa beans and butter, coffee, palm oil, tyres, soya meal, furniture, paper…Art. 2, point 2 ; annexe I
- Role per product flow · Rôle par flux
- The EUDR role (operator, trader…) is determined for each product flow, not for the company: a cooperative may be an operator for the cocoa it exports and a mere supplier for the coffee it sells to an exporter. TracaTerre proposes it; an authorised person validates it.
- SHA-256 fingerprint · Empreinte SHA-256
- Code computed from a file or record: the slightest change alters it. It proves that a document, transfer or invoice has not been altered.
- Simplified declaration · Déclaration simplifiée
- Single declaration of the micro or small primary operator (content of Annex III); it receives an identifier to be passed downstream.Art. 4 bis ; annexe III
- Simplified due diligence · Diligence raisonnée simplifiée
- When all products come from low-risk countries, the operator collects the information without having to assess and mitigate risk, unless it becomes aware of a risk of non-compliance.Art. 13
- Statistical confidentiality · Secret statistique
- Indicators shared with an authority or association are anonymous totals, hidden when fewer than three organisations contribute.
- TRACES account · Compte TRACES
- Access credentials to the information system of the operator or its representative, entered in its record and encrypted. They are never displayed or logged.
- Trade name · Désignation commerciale
- Name and type of the product as stated in the statement (e.g. “Dried cocoa beans”); for timber, the species are added, with their common and scientific names. TracaTerre asks for them when the lot is put together, with the HS or CN code; net quantity, plots and country of production come from the purchases.Annexe II

- Users (administrator): what each account can do in the workspace.
- Volume balance (mass balance) · Bilan des volumes (bilan massique)
- Check that a batch's outputs do not exceed its inputs (within 0.5%, for weighing). It is updated after each batch is put together. It is not 'mixing' as in certification schemes: every plot of origin remains known, as the Regulation requires.Art. 9 §1 d)
- Yield cap · Rendement plafond
- Highest plausible yield (kg per hectare) of a product, per country and season, set with its justification. It is used to detect impossible volumes.
- Yields: average and ceiling · Rendements : moyen et plafond
- My account › Crop yields › Type.
